A sustainable alternative to tropical wood

Sonowood is a material made of wood that has been processed to give it the required properties to be an alternative to tropical wood, which has long been overused.
Violin-making needs an alternative to this unsustainable use.
The sustainably-grown Swiss wood is selected according to its acoustic properties and compressed to give it the required strength and hardness for instrument fittings, as well as extremely good properties of sound-conductivity.
From this we produce fingerboards, tailpieces, chinrests, pegs and endpins in our workshop in Switzerlang using a CNC machine, which are then finished by hand.
The shapes of our products have been fine-tuned for optimal acoustic quality in collaboration with musicians and fellow violin makers; the unique properties of this material enable the finest design, and as the wooden structure remains largely intact it gives the accessories a lively beauty.
