Tailpiece specifications

The tailpieces developed and manufactured by Wilhelm Geigenbau are produced in various designs, materials, lengths and features.

Models

 

The Tulip, Lily, English, Classic and Baroque models are available in each of the different Sonowood materials as well as Ebonprex.
The tailpieces are produced in different lengths. The tailpiece length should be seleted to give an afterlength (the vibrating length of the string behind the bridge) that is minimum 1/6 of the vibrating string length.

Lengths for violin:

99 mm, 101 mm, 103 mm, 105 mm, 107 mm, 109 mm, 111 mm, 113 mm, 115 mm, 117 mm

Lengths for viola:

120 mm, 124 mm, 128 mm, 132 mm, 136 mm, 140 mm

Lengths for cello:

215 mm, 225 mm, 235 mm, 245 mm, 255 mm

Lengths for double bass:

325 mm, 340 mm, 355 mm, 370 mm

Sonowood: compressed beech, coloured. Density 1.3

Ebonprex

Unidirectionally-glued beech wood, coloured. Density 1.2

  • visually similar to ebony; great finished surface quality

  • best workability

  • best dimensional stability, high rigidity

  • prolonged contact with water can lead to slight swelling along glue seams

  • high sound conductivity

  • cheaper alternative to Sonowood

 

Fine tuners

With 1,2,4 or without fine tuners

Our fine tuners are from Bois d'Harmonie or from Stradpet. Tailpieces fitted with 4 fine tuners have no fret.

Our tailpieces come with a carbon fibre tailgut.
